Feature and Follow (9)

Here’s this week’s question: Back to school. Create a reading list for the imaginary English Lit class you’ll be teaching this semester.

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community.

All I remember from high-school was hating almost every book I was forced to read, not because I was forced to read and analyze them. But more the fact that every book was a 'classic', with big wordy sentences, and overly long descriptive paragraphs that went way over my head (especially since I had reading difficulties.

So if I was to choose a mix of books to teach high-school kids, I would choose slightly more modern contemporary books, that hopefully would keep them fully absorbed while also teaching them about themes, character development, and literary metaphors. My choices would be:

  1. I'm not familiar with LOOKING FOR ALASKA, but I really enjoyed TFOS by John Green, so maybe I'll check this out by him next.

  5. Looking for Alaska is the only John Green book I haven't read. I'm not sure why though, because it sounds SO good. I need to get my act together!

  6. Nice list! I have Thirteen Reasons Why on my list too - it is absolutely amazing. I've see a lot of lists with classics, so I like that you have a more modern novels that would get a majority of students reading.
